Wash Off the Winter

Five months of road salt has been chewing on your frame, brake hardware, fifth wheel, and underside of the trailer. Run the truck through an undercarriage wash in March, then walk around looking for fresh rust, especially at frame rivets, brake-can mounts, and air-line fittings. Catching corrosion now keeps inspections clean and prevents expensive frame work later.

Spring Fluid and Maintenance Pass

Swap back from winter-blend washer fluid and check coolant freeze/boil point, oil condition, DEF, and air dryer cartridge (annual swap). Re-grease the fifth wheel with the manufacturer-spec grease and inspect kingpin and locking jaw wear. Replace wiper blades (every 6 months), check all lights, and rotate tires if tread is wearing unevenly.

Park Straight Inside Your Lines

A cocked trailer can cost the lot one or two adjacent spots. Pull straight in, square your trailer between the lines, and leave room for the doors next to you to open. If the spot is tight, take an extra minute on the GOAL (get out and look) — better than the angry note on your windshield in the morning.

Lights, Idle, and Trash

Kill high beams as you approach the lot at night — drivers next to you are trying to sleep. Don't idle next to a sleeper if you can avoid it (use APU or shore power if available). And bag your trash and take it to the dumpster — never drop it in another driver's empty spot. Lots stay clean and welcoming when everyone follows simple etiquette.
